The Stamina 1300 Magnetic Upright Stationary Bike gets the job done! The Stamina 1300 is a very basic stationary exercise bike with light to moderate resistance. No external power source is required, but the bike does provide workout data: Its LCD rotates the rider’s speed, distance, time and calories burned.

The adjustable seat lets this bike fit most riders about 5’2″ to 6’2″. Owners consistently report that the bike runs quietly enough to hear TV at a normal level, or late at night without disturbing others. It remains clunk-free even after a few years of use. That’s impressive for such a low-priced product.

The 1300’s list price of just $249 includes a limited warranty protecting customers against overall defective units, plus the frame is under warranty for one year and parts are covered for 90 days.

Here’s a feature-by-feature review of the Stamina 1300 Magnetic Upright Stationary Exercise Bike.

The Great

This bike supports low-impact workouts that aren’t likely to bring muscle pain. Here are some reasons people choose the Stamina 1300.

  • Steel Frame: The Magnetic 1300 Upright Bike has a steel frame with 250-pound user weight capacity.
  • Light Flywheel: The heart of this ride is a very light flywheel. A heavy flywheel can be the most expensive part of a stationary bike… so for not-so-intense exercisers, it might make sense to not pay for that power. (The compromise is that light resistance doesn’t feel so much like a road bike.) This bike’s light resistance can be helpful for physical rehabilitation, maintaining muscle tone, defining muscles and burning calories. It isn’t meant for building bulk.
  • Magnetic Resistance: The resistance system gives this stationary bike its name. Magnetic resistance helps create a virtually frictionless drive, so the bike runs and brakes quietly.
  • Good Pedals: Cheap pedals are often a problem on low-priced exercise bikes, but we haven’t heard complaints about pedals on this model. They don’t seem to break off, and they move quietly.
  • Adjustable Saddle: The seat can be adjusted for a wide range of heights.
  • No Electricity Required: We love this feature! Other stationary bikes charge a small fee — an electricity expense — with each ride. But with the Stamina 1300, there’s no power cord. The console is powered by user-generated electricity.
  • Data: Many upright bikes don’t provide exercise data. The Stamina Magnetic 1300 shows distance, time and speed along with an estimate of calories burned. These are all the essentials, except that heart rate would be also be very useful.
  • Weight Capacity: The maximum user weight capacity is 250 pounds.
  • Compact Size: The Stamina Magnetic 1300 is one of the smallest indoor trainers we’ve seen. Its footprint is just 44″ long x 19″ wide.
  • Easy to Move: This bike only weighs about 50 pounds. It’s easy for most riders to move the bike within a room, or from room to room. Plus, since it doesn’t have a cord, it can be placed just about anywhere.
  • Warranty: The warranty isn’t excellent but we consider it fine for the price. The bike automatically includes one year of frame protection and 90 days of parts protection. Extended warranties may be available.

The Not-So-Great

This bike gets overwhelmingly positive reviews, which isn’t typical of stationary bikes in this price class. Even so, here are some other potential drawbacks of choosing the Stamina 1300 Magnetic Upright Stationary Bike.

  • Difficult Assembly: This bike takes an above average about of time to assemble — and that’s weird considering how basic it is. People tend to get confused at the same point, when setting up a tension cable, but they find their way through.
  • Very Hard Seat: This bike’s seat is harder than most. It can’t be pulled out and exchanged for another, so we recommend investing in a gel cushion. A padded seat is provided on the Stamina Magnetic Upright 5325, which costs just a bit more.
  • Very Basic Data: Only four data points are provided. These are shown one at a time, with each showing for about 30 seconds.

Who Should Ride the Stamina 1300 Magnetic Upright Stationary Bike?

The Stamina 1300 Magnetic Upright Bike gets positive reviews from owners expecting light resistance. It is stable for up to 250 pounds. This stationary bike can help a trainee burn calories and tone their lower body.

The Bottom Line

The Stamina 1300 Magnetic Upright Stationary Bike serves its purpose. Without introducing any frills, it supports lower-level cardio training and muscle toning. Although the warranty is pretty short, this machine gets good reviews for durability. It’s a good buy in its price class.
