Looking for a solid home spin bike under $800? The Schwinn IC4 is just $799, and offers an impressive combination of interactive training, performance features and upper-body workouts.

Much like the Peloton, interactive training is the key focus for the IC4. Its Bluetooth connectivity allows you to stream interactive spinning classes from a wide range of fitness apps including Peloton, Zwift, and Explore The World. The difference? The IC4 has a very enticing sticker price.

Performance highlights include a smooth and quiet 40-pound drive, 100 levels of magnetic resistance, and wireless heart-rate monitoring (Bluetooth heart-rate armband included with purchase). As for protection, standard warranty coverage for the Schwinn IC4 includes 10 years of coverage for the frame, 3 years for mechanical and electrical components, and 1 year for labor.

Dig deeper into the pros and cons of the Schwinn IC4 indoor cycling bike below.

The Great

  • Interactive Training: The IC4’s Bluetooth connectivity allows you to stream interactive training classes through a variety of fitness apps, including the Peloton app. Compete with other riders through the Zwift app or try a scenic cycling trail across the globe with the Explore The World app.
  • Heavy Drive: The bike’s heavy-duty 40-pound drive provides enough challenge to any rider.
  • Resistance Levels: The IC4’s 100 micro-adjustable resistance levels allow you to perfectly customize your resistance every time, gradually ramping up the challenge each time you work out.
  • Dumbbells Included: The IC4 comes with a pair of 3 lb. dumbbells so you can focus on targeting your upper body during cycling workouts.
  • Tablet Holder: Because it’s a “bring your own tech” bike, the IC4’s tablet holder is very handy. It allows you to dock your phone or tablet safely, so you can stream your interactive classes with ease.
  • Diverse Pedals: The IC4 is a flexible bike, suited to many riders. Its dual link pedals with toe cages mean you can use the standard toe cages or SPD clips, catering to whatever riding style you prefer.
  • Multi-grip Handlebars: As well as using the dumbbells, riders can take advantage of the IC4’s multi-grip handlebars to target different muscle groups.
  • Free Shipping: Live within the 48 contiguous United States? If so, you can get the IC4 bike delivered to you for free.

The Not so Great

  • Onboard Workouts: If you’re looking for preset workouts, you won’t get these with the IC4. Interactive training is the focus here.
  • Subscription Fees for Interactive Training: If you want to interactively train on the IC4 (which we assume is the case as you are paying more for this bike than other Schwinn indoor cycles because of its Bluetooth connectivity for interactive training), remember you will have to pay for a subscription to one of the apps. Say you choose the Peloton app. Although their full membership costs $39/month, if you don’t have Peloton equipment and just want to use their Digital Membership, this will cost $12.99/month after your free trial.
  • LCD Display: The IC4 is a “bring your own tech” machine. It doesn’t include a high-tech console for interactive training. Instead, it has an LCD for you to keep on top of your basic workout stats. That said, this is also a plus because in bringing your own tech, you are keeping the overall costs of the bike down.

Who Should Use the Schwinn IC4?

As the IC4 is a spin bike, it’s optimized for fast calorie burn and intense rides by nature. Interactive training is also a key focus. If this is the kind of workout you are looking for, and you have a budget of $800, the IC4 bike is a stellar choice. If you’re looking for a cycle that supports low-intensity rides that are gentler on the knees, then a recumbent bike would be a better match for you.

That said, thanks to the IC4’s 100 resistance levels, the bike can suit a wide variety of riders. Most riders will be able to find the right level of challenge on the IC4.

The IC4 also works for people who’d appreciate some upper-body exercise along with lower-body exercise and cardio training, as it includes a set of dumbbells and multi-position handlebars.

Its compact size and transport wheels make it suitable for most home gyms. It’s also comfortable for most riders thanks to its adjustable handlebars and seat, as well as the dual link pedals.

The Bottom Line

The IC4 is a flexible spin bike that you can use with a wide range of fitness apps. Whether you want to experience the world-leading Peloton classes on a budget, or compete with other riders across the world, the IC4 can keep you entertained and motivated for years to come.
What’s more, the combination of performance features including a 40-pound flywheel, huge variety of resistance levels, and dual link pedals with toe cages is impressive for this price point. The bike itself is solid, as reflected in its above-average warranty for a bike in its price range.
