Rather than investing in trainers and class development, Stryde has partnered with a half dozen of the country’s best and brightest boutique indoor cycling studios. Together, they bring you a compendium of training options straight to the 21.5″ HD touchscreen of a bike built for riders between 5’1″ and 6’5″.

From a hardware standpoint the Stryde Bike runs pretty close to the Peloton, and by cutting corners in a few less essential areas they’re able to offer their bike and streaming service for a lower price of entry. The best part? You aren’t locked into only using the screen for Stryde programming. Browse the web, or use other streaming services as you see fit, so long as the apps can be accessed via a browser rather than the Google Play store.

At this rate there’s no denying that streaming indoor cycling classes into your home is the new hot ticket in fitness. Ever since Peloton hit the market, there have been contender after contender entering the ring, ranging from the high-spec NordicTrack S22i down to the entry level (but still VERY good) MYX Fitness bike, with about a half dozen others in between. The Stryde Bike hits an interesting mid-point in the category, bringing in the right features to appeal to the studio indoor cycling crowd without hitting the price threshold that holds many riders back from going to Peloton.

The Great

• Quality Streaming Training: Stryde’s winning move in the development of their product was simple. Rather than invest in trainers and studios, why not leverage some of the best studios found around the US? Six indoor cycling studios from across the country are now recording training sessions that you can stream via the Stryde Bike, and there are hundreds of pre-recorded sessions to choose from. While there are no live classes, the system does allow for up to four user profiles.
• Unlocked Console: Users can browse the web and use a wide range of other services on the Stryde Bike’s console, rather than being locked into only supplied software. This is a huge upper hand versus the competition.
• Lower Monthly Fees: At $29/month, the running cost of this bike is lower than its competition.
• Resistance Levels: The Stryde Bike uses a 1-100 control knob for its resistance, allowing you to perfectly fine-tune your resistance and gradually ramp up the challenge as your progress. As resistance is magnetic, it will be a smooth and quiet ride.
• Sturdy Construction: Stryde spent the money where it counts on the bike, so its frame is of similar quality and durability as its competition. Less structural items (like the drive guard, for example) are made of plastic in order to keep costs lower.

The Not so Great

• No Off-Bike Workouts: Unlike much of the competition, Stryde is all about riding. This means there are no additional streaming classes for stretching, strength training, yoga, or other categories. That said, if your focus is riding, this should be a non-issue.
• New Company: With any startup, there’s always the question of ‘will they stick around’? With an unlocked tablet, you’re in luck, as the Stryde bike is fully functional with or without Stryde’s streaming services.
• Connection Needed: Like any connected bike, you’ll need an internet connection (WiFi or cable) in order to make the most of your Stryde riding experience.
• Short Warranty: The bike only comes with a 12-month warranty.
